Introduction
Dentistry has evolved from a professional of removing teeth to saving natural teeth. Pulp therapy or more commonly known as root canal treatment is the most common procedure performed by the dentist to save natural tooth. When the decay starts in the tooth, a filling can be done to prevent further damage to the teeth. But when the decay has spread and it reached the pulp, then a root canal treatment is performed. The alternate to this, decades before, was removing the natural teeth. In the process of root treatment, the pulp chamber and the roots are completely cleaned. It is a precise work requiring accuracy and perfection. After the complete pulp is cleaned and disinfected, the pulp canals are filled with in inert material to prevent future infection.
Most of the time the process of canal treatment can be completed in one visit, however in select cases of severe infection 2 or 3 sitting may be needed. Each visit is of about 20-45 minutes. Now, let’s discuss on the precautions which you need to take as a patient in the process of root canal therapy.
